Extract Images from PDF

Choose an embedded image and download it at its stored resolution. Supported JPEGs keep their original bytes; supported rasters export as native-size PNGs.

Choose an embedded image

Select a highlighted image or browse the images on the current page.

Keep its stored resolution

Export native pixels independently of the PDF preview zoom.

Download locally

Save supported original JPEGs or reconstructed PNGs from your browser.

Download the embedded image at its native size.

Choose a supported image on the page or in the resource list. Downloads contain the complete stored image, including pixels cropped out of the PDF view. Vector artwork is not supported.

A short guide

How to extract images from a PDF

  1. Open the document

Choose a local PDF and switch to Images. PDFCopy inspects the embedded image resources on the current page.

  2. Choose an image

Click a highlighted image bound or select an image in the list. Check its stored pixel dimensions and export information.

  3. Download the full image

Download a supported JPEG unchanged, or a reconstructed PNG at its native pixel dimensions. Page cropping is not applied to the download.

Extract the image at its stored resolution

This JPEG is embedded in the JPEG and PNG images example. It is placed at 192 × 128 on the page; its stored image is 96 × 64 pixels.

Supported documents and limits

Only supported embedded raster formats can be exported. Vector charts, inline images, tiled compositions, CMYK/ICC/indexed color spaces, and some transparency masks are not supported. Complex clipping can make page bounds unavailable; use the resource list in those cases.

Common questions

Is this a screenshot of the PDF page?

No. Downloads come from supported embedded image resources. PDFCopy does not capture or crop the rendered page to produce an image export.

Do I get the original image file?

Supported simple JPEG resources keep their stored bytes. Other supported raster data is reconstructed as PNG with native pixels and transparency. That PNG is not necessarily the same file that was originally inserted into the PDF.

Why does an image download include more than I can see on the page?

A PDF can crop an image when displaying it. The download contains the complete stored image, including pixels outside the visible crop.

Can I download a vector chart or a signature?

Only if it is stored as a supported embedded raster image. A chart or signature drawn from vector paths and text is not an extractable raster image.
